Yup, the land-speed record-seeking freaks are at it again. Seeking to smash the current record of 763 mph, land-speeders extraordinaire Richard Noble and Andy Green unveiled a full-scale model of the Bloodhound SSC.
Designed to hit 1050 mph in 42 seconds, the Bloodhound SSC is powered by 3 different motors. The first, a jet engine, takes the car to 300 mph. The second, a rocket, takes the car to the four-digit mark. And finally the third, an 800 hp gas-burning engine serves as an auxiliary power supply and powers the rocket’s oxidizer pump.
Altogether, this bundle of powerplants generates 135,000 horsepower, which makes for one hell of a hybrid! Look for the Bloodhound SSC to start sniffing out the new land-speed record in early 2012.
What do you get when you take a Lamborghini Gallardo, beef up the thunderous tone of that famous Lamborghini Exhaust, strip the dead weight and kill the front-wheel drive? A Lamborghini Valentino Balboni, that’s what.
So, what do you get when you strip the top off of said Lamborghini Valentino Balboni? A Lamborghini Valentino Balboni Spyder, that’s what!
Now for some, a top-down track machine doesn’t make sense, since they tend to be heavy and sluggish compared to their top-on brethren. But once you get an eye and ear-full of this gallant bull runnin’ ‘round the ‘Ring, you may start throwing dollar bills and begging for the top to come off!

Creating the world’s fastest production car just wasn’t enough for those speed hounds over at Bugatti. So, they went back to the drawing board and made the world’s fastest production car even faster, which makes the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport the world’s fastest world’s fastest car.
Only 30 of these Bavarian rockets are to be built, so if you’re in the market for a 1200 hp, 268 mph production car that can pull 1.4 g’s on the skid pad, break out your checkbook.

There’s something beautiful about Italian supercars tearing it up on German racetracks. With that thought in mind, breaking news from the Nürburgring today shows the the Pagani Zonda R set a new road-based car record ‘round the ‘Ring. The 6:47 time crushes the former record held by that other Italian company, the red one. Sorry Ferrari.
We’re not sure if it’s a good thing or not, but the exhaust note of the new Lexus LFA can shatter a wine glass. Now, does that make the car faster? Does it make it more powerful? Does it even make it more desirable?
Who knows, but Lexus is hamming it up, and all we can think about is Memorex and Ella Fitzgerald shattering wine glasses in those classic adverts that interrupted our Happy Days episodes back in the 70s.
Sorry Lexus, not only is a breaking a wine glass not very relevant to what you’re selling, it’s not even original.

Brenda Priddy is up to her old tricks again. This time she had the boys at Aston Martin on the run and the 2012 DB9 square in her crosshairs.
This particular specimen was running about a racetrack, (identified by our intern as the Nurburgring, but we don’t believe him), completely undisguised and working up quite a lather.
Not much has changed from the old Dib-niner, save for some cosmetics of the front and rear fascia and a new air diffuser. Now all this begs the question; is it faster?

Just to prove that we’re not aristocratic supercar snobs here at the insider, we bring you a report on a car more relatable to the common man—the VW Beetle. Only this bug sports a not-so-common full-electric drivetrain, and it does the quarter in sub-12 second ETs.
Christened the Black Current, this home-made creation from across the pond boasts a 114 mph top speed through the traps, which for all intents and purposes is wicked fast. And best yet, it not only beat a Tesla Roadster, it did it on video. Here’s the proof.
