Lexus LFAs for Everybody

lfa

In a cool attempt to thwart speculators and ensure that only real (rich) fans get their hands on the much anticipated Toyota supercar, Lexus is offering it as lease only. Yup—lease only!

You know those adverts for Jags, Bimmers, etc. that say you can lease one for like $399 per month? And you always say to yourself, ”Wow, my fucking Hyundai Santa Fe payment is nearly that much. I should get one of those.”

This isn’t like that. Lexus lays out a 9 step lease process that begins with “maybe” getting on a list. If your credit’s up to snuff, you place a $10K deposit, then a $50K deposit, then start making your 24 monthly payments of $12,400. Easy huh?

If only it were. Lexus wants all 24 payments up front, yeah, up front. So, you drop $298K for the privilege of undergoing a second credit check.  Next, present proof of insurance and take delivery. And at the end of 2 years, if you wanna keep it, just fork over another $93K and it’s yours.

I wonder if they’ll take that Santa Fe as a trade in…?

Due to a sick baby, a clogged upstairs toilet and a podiatrist appointment that could not be rescheduled, yours truly was not able to make the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Oh well, with all the blogs and “legitimate media outlets” converging on the show like a pit crew on a green flag pit stop, there is more than enough coverage out there. And luckily, our friends and fellow journalists over at the UK’s evo magazine snagged some shots of the more unconventional displays in old Geneva. Enjoy!

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon: Coming to a Track Near You

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition

If you have the kind of discretionary income it takes to support a track day hobby, we salute you. Most of us just read blogs and magazines (or write ‘em) and dream about straightening the Laguna Seca Corkscrew in an Arial Atom. Of course, our stark reality reduces us to hitting 65 in a 55 zone in a Hyundai Santa Fe on our way to work.

Anyway, to help whet your track day dreams, Chevy has announced the Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition.  Equipped with Brembo carbon stoppers, carbon fiber bodywork and Michelin PS2 meats all around, the Z06 Carbon will surely beat the regular Z06, but not perhaps the ZR1. You can choose 2 colors—Inferno Orange or Supersonic Blue—along with racing numbers so you can fit right in with the other lucky track-day bitches.

Road Test: 2010 Lotus Evora

Photo: Matthias Knödler

Once again, the crew here at The Car Insider must have slept in that day, been in line at the WIC office or detained at the Tijuana/San Diego border crossing. Because, those are the only 3 things that could keep us from missing the call to road test the latest exotic car. Damn it, someone needs to get fired.

This time it was the new 2010 Lotus Evora, one of the most anticipated rides to roll out of Chapman-ville in quite a while. Oh well, our fellow auto-journalists over at Winding Road were on the ball as usual, so today we defer to their review. Stay tuned though, we’re getting our shit straight and we’re expecting that damn road test call any day now...

2011 Audi A7: Taking Aim at Bimmer & Benzo

Spy-Photog Extraordinaire, Brenda Priddy, has spied the up and coming 2011 Audi A7. Out hot lapping some remote frozen lake in Bavaria (how do we get that job), the coolest thing on the heavily-camouflaged Auto Union speedster is what looks to be an automatic spoiler. And, this new sled is reportedly getting a 300 hp supercharged V6 under the hood, so our advice to Bimmer and Benzo—take cover!
